Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior political figure commented the incident left him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
