The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely building a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
